The President recently signed H.R. 3221, federal housing legislation, which will help up to 400,000 homeowners refinance into affordable backed loans by FHA, will provide greater oversight and support to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (who own and guarantee nearly half of America’s housing debt of $5.2 trillion) and will provide $3.9 billion in neighborhood stabilization funding.  To read an op ed article describing how community land trusts can effectively utilize funding from the legislation click here.   To learn more about the details of the federal bill click here.
