Medici Communities has set a high standard for what quality affordable housing should be, and Evans Station Lofts is the prime example. With its unique masonry design and construction, the Evans Station Lofts building blends into the community and commands a presence that conveys a message that it has been present for a very long time, even though it is new construction. The care that went into the design and construction demonstrates the permanency of what affordable housing stands for.
The project is an asset to the local community and a catalyst for more activity and development in the area. The immediate area, which was previously dark and vacant and had complaints from neighbors about crime and drug activity, now has the safety benefits that come with a well-lit, populated development. The addition of lighting, sidewalks, landscaping and 50 new families provides the safety of additional, “eyes on the street” and infrastructure that benefits neighbors, rail users and pedestrians. The incredible onsite amenities are also successful in bringing tenants together to socialize and develop a true sense of community.

This welcomed new development on the Southwest Rail Line is a five-story, neo-vintage brick building with a mix of one- and two-bedroom units, affordable to households making 30-60% AMI. Employing the attention to design that is rarely seen in affordable housing projects, Evans Station sets a new standard for the affordable housing community and mixed use TODs throughout the metro area. This feat is even more impressive given that it was accomplished without public subsidy.
Medici’s design was also acknowledged at the regional level by receiving the 2013 Mayor’s Award for Excellence in Architecture and Place Making. With the inclusion of the project’s energy efficiency and durability, Medici successfully hit the triple bottom line of sustainability: community, environment, and profit: a feat that is being recognized throughout the affordable housing community.
Congratulations again to our partner Medici Communities!
