In 30 degree weather, ULC made history as we broke ground on October 16th on the largest permanently affordable housing community, Viña, and health clinic, Clinica Tepeyac, in Denver at 48th and Race Street. Viña represents the first phase of an affordable mixed-use development spanning six acres across an entire city block in the Elyria-Swansea neighborhood. In addition to providing affordable housing, the project will include the expansion of local healthcare services by Clínica Tepeyac.

I believe that access to housing is a fundamental human right. As the Vice President of Real Estate, I work every day to make affordable residential and commercial options available throughout the region. As a Black man, however, I recognize that my basic right for personal security, while constitutional, is not observed by all.

Urban Land Conservancy recognizes that one of the most substantial barriers to impact for Black-led/serving organizations who aspire to build is access to capital. To help address this disparity, The Urban Land Conservancy has supported the Black Resilience in Colorado fund in the amount of $250,000 to support 501-c-3 organizations that are Black-led/serving with low-interest loans for pre-development or capital expenditures.

Born and raised in Denver, Chanele Richardson has witnessed the growing lack of affordable housing in Colorado, firsthand. Thirteen of her 18 years working in the industry have been in the affordable housing arena. Since 2010, she has worked at Echelon Property Group, and is currently serving as the Senior Regional Manager for a diverse portfolio of multifamily communities, ranging from market to Low Income Tax Credit.
